Other Legislative Committee Appointments

Early Learning Advisory Council (ELAC) Representatives from around the state meet 6 times a year to provide input and recommendations to the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF). This committee provides a forum so the strategies and actions originated in the DCYF are supported by parents, child care providers, health and safety experts and other stakeholders. I was appointed to ELAC by the Speaker of the House in 2016

Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) Oversight Board was created with the implementation of the DCYF as a result of House Bill 1661 in 2017. This committee is charged with watching the operation of the DCYF from the 30,000 foot level  to verify that the DCYF is on track to achieve the outcomes outlined in HB 1661 and keep the department accountable. I was instrumental in the legislation forming the DCYF and  have served on this committee since the beginning in 2018.

Commercial Aviation Coordinating Commission (CACC) came about as a result of Senate Bill 5370 in 2019. With the growing population of Washington state and the increase in air travel the commission is charged with identifying a possible site for a new commercial airport and analyzing possible expansion of existing airports for both commercial air travel and air cargo operations. I was the lead negotiator from the house on this bill and have served on the CACC since its inception.

Pesticide Application Safety Committee (PASCo) is a result of Senate Bill 5550 passed in 2019. This was the result of 2018 legislation Engrossed Second Substitute Senate Bill 6529 which directed a workgroup to develop recommendations to improve pesticide application safety. The workgroup concluded that legislation was warranted to set up a new pesticide application safety panel with clear objectives. The purpose of this committee is to evaluate and recommend policy options to improve pesticide application safety. I was the caucus lead on these pieces of legislation. I served on the workgroup and now serve on this committee.
